Programming Portable Data Terminals for Optimizing the Inventory Process

A big retail company asked Byndyusoft to optimize the inventory process because it took a lot of time and didn’t give the necessary level of control for the stock in the warehouse.

In the previous process, an inventory inspector checked only an item’s existence but couldn’t analyze its characteristics, such as weight, size, etc. Also, inspectors had too many manual and drudgery tasks that should have been automated. As a result, the inventory process didn’t recognize violations in stores on time.


One of the parts of the developed product is software for the Portable Data Terminals (PDT). PDT is a device that can scan a barcode, save the scanned data and synchronize it with a server via Wi-Fi.

Product Discovery helped us to find an interface solution for a new terminal program. We designed and developed software for the PDT on Windows CE in just 3 months.

Byndyusoft launched a GUI importer for any data source to a DWH in a short period of time. A working prototype was developed in just two weeks. They worked according to an established roadmap and after a month we started to use the new system on production servers.

After the four tests in real stores, the solution was found, implemented and launched as a standard in the client’s stores.

Now inspectors can check all characteristics on the PDT screen including a photo of the scanned item. There is no manual and drudgery work anymore, everything is automated.
